America works hard!

Labor Day is a celebration of American workers established in 1894 as a federal holiday. According to a study by the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity, Americans WORK THE HARDEST at 34.4 hours/week when compared to the top 10 worldwide economies. Australia at 32.4 and Sweden at 31.2 followed at 2nd and 3rd , in case you were wondering.  When compared to all of the 35+ nations in the study, we came in 10th.  Mexico is #1 at 42.8 hours, followed by Korea at 41.6 hours.

Compare this to the 84 hours a week Americans were working in the 1800’s around the time Labor Day became a national holiday. We have a lot to be thankful for! Labor Day only became official after 12 years of employees rising up to fight for their rights as workers. More about the great history of Labor Day here.

Big Sil celebrates Labor Day and his own lineage as a working American dog.  Bred from the combination of Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs, the American Pit Bull Terrier was built for the strength of the bulldog and the speed and agility of the terrier. They were brought over to the US and became the first pioneer dogs and work dogs to protect the home from predators, help on the farm, hunt, and watch over the children at play.
